Lucis Via: Catholic Young Adults of Greenville
Young adults 18-39 in the Greenville area are encouraged to join our ministry, while being as active as their time allows! Our monthly activities include bible study, book group, rosary group, happy hour (2nd Friday), lunch (3rd Sunday), and more. Additional events include service projects, Theology on Tap (semi-annually), and various speaker events.
Our members are diverse – men and women in various relationship stages (single, dating, engaged, married, or married with kids); and at different stages of their faith life.
There are many fun events throughout the week and on weekends as well. For more detailed info on upcoming events, please check out their Facebook Page, Website and subscribe to their Newsletter! Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our Leadership Team
Matt Dugan: A Clemson University fan and graduate of the Civil Engineering program, Matt grew up rooting for his hometown Atlanta Braves! He spends his free time active – SCUBA diving, wakeboarding, playing various sports (golf, volleyball, softball, kickball, etc.), and competing with his Dad in the annual Ground Pounders (sand volleyball) tournament! Matt has an older sister and is in a relationship with his best friend, Erin. His faith journey is one of growing up “going through the motions” of Catholicism to becoming “on fire with faith” surrounded by a community of young adults in LVG following a difficult ACL tear. Matt is a parishioner at St. Mary’s Downtown. One of his favorite quotes is: “Don’t worry about the world coming to an end today….it’s already tomorrow in Australia.”
Sarah Pelicano: Sarah is a self-described combination of highly practical adult and wide-eyed kid! She is a graduate of Furman University and has a freelance writing business that enables her to pursue her passions in both the written word and in having a self-determined work-life balance. Sarah has a deep love of Scripture study and the Sacraments, is an avid reader, and has a passion for the outdoors especially hiking, backpacking, and camping, which she loves sharing. One of 8 siblings, Sarah grew up in St. Louis before moving to Greenville and has since lived in NC, IL and NJ before resettling in the area. She is a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene where she has taught Religious Education in the past. One of her favorite quotes is from The Incredibles character Edna Mode – “Go, confront the problem. Fight! Win!”
Annie Z: Annie is a parishioner at Prince of Peace with two younger sisters (Trina & Kristen) who was raised in the Upstate and returned to Greenville 1.5 years ago to work as a Physician’s Assistant. As you might expect, Annie has a deep interest in medical and Catholic bioethics! She also loves to exercise, be outdoors and do craft projects. One of Annie’s favorite saints is St. Catherine of Siena and she loves the quote: ”Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” Annie is particularly excited about creating a statewide effort joining young adults in prayer for vocations wherein a rosary will travel from person-to-person around South Carolina.
Christina C: A parishioner at St. Mary’s, Christina moved to Greenville the summer of 2014 from Arizona and immediately began participating in LVG events! Originally from Maryland, she has moved around several times in the past few years (including spending 3 months with the Crossroads Prolife Walk staying at campsites across the country) and loves to travel whenever she has the chance, even if it is just a day-trip to Asheville! In her free time, Christina enjoys hiking, playing sports, dancing, baking and eating cookies. She has also worked as a stand-in/double in 4 movies, including as Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games! One of her favorite quotes is from Mother Theresa; “Go out into the world today and love the people you meet. Let your presence light new light in the hearts of people.”
Dan B: A native of Pittsburgh, Dan moved to Greenville with his wife of 4+ years, Victoria, to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. He currently works performing heat transfer designs for General Electric’s (GE) gas turbine business. In Dan’s free time, he enjoys the outdoors, canoeing, hiking and loves to travel. Some of his recent travel destinations include Italy, Hungary, Seattle, and Portland. He is also a proud Uncle to his only sister’s son! Dan’s patron saint is St. Joseph. He attends St. Mary’s Downtown and is an avid listener of Catholic Radio.
Kylee H: A Virginia girl through-and-through, Kylee built a house in Greenville eight years ago moving from her home town of Midlothian (VA) and stopping along the way for a few years in the nearby town of Spartanburg. She works as Global Operations Director for a pharmaceutical market research firm helping develop forecasts, track markets, and develop marketing strategies for new and existing drugs. She will do almost anything for a t-shirt – Kylee has completed twenty 5Ks and 10Ks and four half-marathons in the past three years. In her free time, Kylee enjoys being together with family and friends, travel, and volunteering in the community as member of the Board of Directors for the Junior League of Greenville. Kylee serves on the Communications Team!
Sarah M. is a Greenville native who, after spending a few years in Georgia (Go Dawgs!), is loving be back in her hometown! She works as a Public Relations Associate for a local PR firm (Olivia Pope is her spirit animal). Sarah has never met a restaurant that she doesn’t want to try, and in her free time enjoys traveling and exploring new places and going to live theater. Sarah is a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene and serves on the Communications team. She is excited to become more involved with this great group of young adults in the Upstate!
Teresa M: Born in Illinois, Teresa is a long-time parishioner of St. Mary’s with her family! Since 2007, Teresa has served as the Middle School/High School Drama Fine Arts Department Chair at St. Joseph’s Catholic School having earned a BA in Drama with Business minor at the University of Dallas and a MA in Theater at the University of Houston. In her hard-to-find spare time, Teresa loves to play with her three nieces, read, crochet, cook/bake, travel, enjoy tea/wine, and fellowship with friends. She has many favorite quotes from scripture, but one of her favorites is: “Do not conform yourself to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” – Romans 12:2.
