Faithful Citizenship

logoPrayer, preparation, education – all essential to faithful citizenship

As Catholics, we are called to engage in the public square and work for the common good. On November 8th, voters across South Carolina and the United States will head to the polls to elect a President and their representatives in Congress.

The South Carolina Catholic Conference is providing several resources to help voters form their consciences, understand the principles and issues to consider when voting and learn where candidates stand.

The voter education resources we are providing include:

  • Presidential Voter Guide: a side-by-side comparison of where the two major party presidential candidates stand on issues, drawing on campaign websites and news accounts. This is available in English and Spanish.
  • Catholic Issues Voter Guide: A summary of the principles of Catholic social teaching to consider when casting a ballot.
  • Weekly Prayer Intentions for Catholics
  • Guidelines for Political Activities for parishes and other Catholic entities.

NOTE: The Diocese of Charleston authorizes parishes to use only materials provided by the diocese, the South Carolina Catholic Conference and the USCCB. Non-diocesan voter-education resources are not authorized for parish use.

In prayer and in public, your voices are urgently needed to bring Gospel values to bear on
vital decisions being made by those who represent you.

The South Carolina Catholic Conference is the public policy agency representing the Diocese of Charleston, South Carolina. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Michael F. Acquilano, Director, at macquilano@catholic-doc.org or (843) 261-0535.
