The baton has been passed from Victoria and Dan Burnos (the “Burni”) who served their 2-year tenure as Co-Regional Coordinators from 2013-2015 to Matt Dugan and Sarah Pelicano. At a recent celebration of the Burni’s generosity of time, talent and treasure in leading the young adult ministry, Rachel Neubauer (Associate Director of Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Charleston) and the members of the leadership team presented gifts of appreciation!
Learn more about Sarah & Matt:
Matt Dugan: A Clemson University fan and graduate of the Civil Engineering program, Matt grew up rooting for his hometown Atlanta Braves! He spends his free time active – SCUBA diving, wakeboarding, playing various sports (golf, volleyball, softball, kickball, etc.), and competing with his Dad in the annual Ground Pounders (sand volleyball) tournament! Matt has an older sister and is in a relationship with his best friend, Erin. His faith journey is one of growing up “going through the motions” of Catholicism to becoming “on fire with faith” surrounded by a community of young adults in LVG following a difficult ACL tear. Matt is a parishioner at St. Mary’s Downtown. One of his favorite quotes is: “Don’t worry about the world coming to an end today….it’s already tomorrow in Australia.”
Sarah Pelicano: Sarah is a self-described combination of highly practical adult and wide-eyed kid! She is a graduate of Furman University and has a freelance writing business that enables her to pursue her passions in both the written word and in having a self-determined work-life balance. Sarah has a deep love of Scripture study and the Sacraments, is an avid reader, and has a passion for the outdoors especially hiking, backpacking, and camping, which she loves sharing. One of 8 siblings, Sarah grew up in St. Louis before moving to Greenville and has since lived in NC, IL and NJ before resettling in the area. She is a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene where she has taught Religious Education in the past. One of her favorite quotes is from The Incredibles character Edna Mode – “Go, confront the problem. Fight! Win!”
